Birthday Cards

A quick little post and update on another small project I've been working on. My close friend and her son recently had their birthdays, and I decide it was the perfect time to try making some handmade cards. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out! If you click on the image you can see the details a little better.

Sticky Note Project: Week 23

Happy Easter! I've been enjoying this ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL spring day outside reading my new book, sunning my pale self and doing a little catch-up with some home chores. Don't worry! It's fun chores - like printing pictures, finishing some crafts, testing some new yummy recipes, and of course - updating my sticky note drawings! There are some Nutella banana fudgesicles in the freezer as we speak!

1st Official Project!

I was so excited last week when I got the chance to help some good friends with a side project they started, and they were in desperate need for some fast turnaround label designs. Of course, I was up for the task and even a little nervous at the thought of actually using my doodles for anything more than – well, just doodles! So, from a sticky note to a final label, these are going to look quite nice hanging from their "up-cycled" chairs and furniture!

Sticky Note Project: Week 21

Happy Valentines Day week! My theme seemed to just fall into focus around all the goodies that go along with preparing for the most commercial day of love – perfume, cookies, flowers and even the occasional love letter. My hubby brought me home a beautiful bouquet flowers but the best part was a pink hydrangea for the back yard! Our old house was FULL of flowers all spring and summer and miss bringing them inside to enjoy. No florist bouquet can compete with the aroma of fresh cut backyard flowers! We planted about 100 bulbs this weekend so I can't wait to see those little leaves come poking out of the ground in the coming months!

Sticky Note Project: Week 20

I completely skipped a full week! I cant' believe it! Well, I'm brushing it aside and accepting sometimes it's just not going to happen as I plan! So, on to the next - here's what I've been working on this week.

Week 20: (kind of!)
So, it WAS the Chinese New Year when I drew this, but now it's my lunch from Friday!

I've been trying a new style of drawing faces, although its really weird going back to the small sticky note size and trying it.

I really like the way the colors came out in this one.

I know, I know... the "L" is backwards, BUT this one came from one of my sticky notes with a LOST quote on it. I just had to run with it!

Sticky Note Project: Week 19

Typography week! This week I decided to illustrate different typography styles and fonts. The quotes are pretty random, usually from something I happened to see that day or hear on the radio! Nothing special... but on another note of something that IS special - I'm almost to 100 sticky note images!

Sticky Note Project: Week 18

So, I decided that I want to try and start adding color in my doodles, so I brought something easy to use at work - sketch markers. I have to say I'm not liking them AT ALL. I thought I would, but I'm not liking the lack of control and I feel like the color is just too pigmented with one stroke. I much more a fan of water color consistency. So, my next attempt go in afterwards and slowly build up color.

Sticky Note Project: Week 17

Happy New Year! Ahhh, what a nice break, but I'm ready to jump back into my weekly sticky note drawings as well as devote more free time to trying new techniques. It's quite a rainy start to the new year so I might need to to take advantage of this dreary day and pull out some watercolor and paper! I also found some great sketch markers i tried out this week. I can't say it was "successful" but it was worth a shot, we'll see what happens in the coming weeks!

Week 17:

I'll admit, this one's a little creepy... but i love the 2012 ring.

First attempt with a highlighter.
I found some sketch markers in my stash and decided to give those a shot.

Sticky Note Project: Week 16

One more week before Christmas, I think I'm ready! With that, I'll leave you with some final drawings until the new year!

Week 16:
For some reason her head got really big! She reminds me of the British Guards!

Sticky Note Project: Week 15

Boy oh boy, have the weeks been flying by and the parties adding up, and time running out to finish all the last minute Christmas "doings". We had 5 parties this year! I think that's a new record for us! Which also means my drawing time has been slacking. Don't worry, I still have a mound of sticky notes to use through next year!

Week 15:
This kind of looks like my husband's chin! So strange...

Every girl needs some bling for the Holidays!

I found a cute white owl pendant with flowers all over the body!

Sticky Note Project: Week 14

I really LOVE this weeks drawings. Sometimes it feels like a chore to make time do them, but it always seems, once I get down to business, I'm surprise with what ends up on the paper. And it was all worth it!

Week 14:

This was the day that I forced myself to draw and I'm so glad I did because this is my favorite one yet!

Sticky Note Project: Week 13

Thanksgiving week was a very short week for us. Since we left on Wed. and had to drive up to St. Louis, I was only able to squeeze out two this week. On another note, I was also able to spill a whole cup of coffee all over my desk, mouse, keyboard and sadly my sticky-note project book! I pretty much annihilated week 11-12 They now look like a Rorschach ink test Luckily I blogged about them!

Week 13:
This stocking reminds me of the knitted one I had as a kid from my grandma!

I liked the vintage aftershave bottle, dark amber brown.

Sticky Note Project: Week 12

Playing catch up from being busy the last 2 weeks. I didn't have my favorite pen handy this week and I can really tell it threw me off. It's amazing the difference a pen or paper or even the paper size can make.

Week 12:

And here starts the different pen...
